POLO IN COSTA SMERALDA
Polo, the sport of kings and the king of sports, the oldest team game in the world, is coming to Costa Smeralda.
From 22nd April to 1st May Porto Cervo will be hosting the first edition of the Costa Smeralda Polo Cup Jaeger LeCoultre Gold Cup, a tournament offering a spectacle of great technical relevance which is reserved for six teams. Sardinia is the Italian region which boasts the greatest tradition in the world of horses and this is the first time that it opens its doors to this spectacular, fascinating, rapidly growing sport.
Polo is action, sport, elegance, technique, fashion, nature and glamour: a cocktail of ingredients which seem just made for the Costa Smeralda. The tournament in Porto Cervo comes alongside the famous Cortina Winter Polo on Snow Jaeger LeCoultre Gold Cup, an event which is by now a tradition in the Alps of Ampezzo. This last event took place most successfully on the frozen lake of Misurina at an altitude of 1800 metres during the week of Carnival. The AUDI team and the Hotel de la Poste team ,under the command of the two captains, Gianni Rommy and Luca D’Orazio were awarded respectively the Silver Cup Audi and the Gold Cup Jaeger LeCoultre, the most prestigious prize on offer. The next opportunity for the two of them to meet will be in Porto Cervo where we foresee a strong participation of outstanding Argentinians. On this occasion there will be about one hundred and forty horses arriving in Porto Cervo. A further pinch of international flavour will be added by the presence on the field of Tom Barrack, the American magnate who for the past three years has been the owner of the real estate of the Costa Smeralda.
